The Marathon des Sables is strongly linked with the charity "Facing Africa". It was a charity that  appealed to both Ben and myself after hearing about the plight of the African children effected by it. NOMA starts of as a common mouth ulcer, but left untreated and through malnutrition can spread at an alarming speed, eating  away at facial flesh of it's victim. Most of those effected die from it but for the lucky ones, if you can call them that, are left with hideous facial disfigurement, losing the ability to talk, eat and drink. Socially outcast they are left to die an ignominious death. All this can be stopped with your help.

The money that we raised will go to fund teams of medical experts and equipment to the regions worst effected, to help the victims with facial reconstructive surgery and to educate and increase awareness of how to prevent the disease.
